12 LB. 3 OZ., 64 Feet of water north of Elk Creek

West Erie County, DWCO Randy Leighton, WCO Brook Tolbert

Conditions:

Perch fishing on Lake Erie is as good as it gets with anglers bringing in many limits in only several hours. Large numbers of boats have been schooling up along with the perch in 55 feet of water north of Walnut Creek and in 52 to 55 feet of water off the point at Presque Isle Walnut fishing continues to improve with the vast majority of the fish caught in 20-35 feet of water west of Walnut Creek as far as the Ohio line. A number of boats have begun to target walleye in the deeper water with fair to good reports coming from 64 feet of water north of Elk Creek to the clay banks. Bass and pan fish are still biting well around Presque Isle and can make great fishing for the kids. A simple hook and bopper set up with crawlers, shiners, or when you can get them , crayfish can keep a child busy for hours at Presque Isle State Park. Current Lake Erie water temperature off remains around 72 degrees.

Discover Presque Isle:
Discover Presque Isle takes place this on, July 25th, 26th, and 27th. This major three-day event celebrates Erie's most valuable public resource and introduces thousands of visitors to all that Presque Isle State Park has to offer. These include kayak demonstrations, rock wall climbing, nature tours, kite flying, pontoon boat rides, volleyball tournaments, duathlon (run, bike, run), a mile swim, arts and crafts shows, children's areas, giant beach bonfires and much more. Proceeds from this event benefit the Presque Isle Partnership and the operation of Presque Isle State Park. A pancake breakfast will be held on Saturday and Sunday mornings (been there, done it, and it's great). Other food vendors will be on hand throughout the weekend as well. Click on Discover Presque Isle Event Schedule for more information, activities and a schedule of all events.
Area Wind and Wave Conditions:
Area bait shops, the Walnut creek access office, and countless other area agencies are bombarded every weekend with out of town phone calls regarding wind and wave conditions on the lake. Anglers traveling long distances to enjoy the area understandably are looking to assure that their vacation time wont be spoiled by strong winds and waves. Lake Erie is an area of rapid weather change with most of our weather heading from west to east and many of our area weather predictions coming from the Cleveland area. There are many sites on line that offer access to up to the minute radar loops that will often give good indications as to what to expect for the area. The wise traveler will not only make a call to the area to get current conditions, but will learn the area weather patterns and how they affect lake conditions. This doesn't mean you have to be a meteorologist, but doing a little pre trip homework on the weather can mean the difference between a fun trip and a trip spoiled by weather.

Boating Safety Tip:
Always turn your boat motor completely off when you approach a fallen skier or a fallen tuber
