August 13th, 2008 West Erie County, DWCO Randy Leighton, WCO Brook Tolbert Conditions: Wind and wave conditions over the past week seemed to have scattered the fish but general, Perch are still hitting strong north and slightly west of Walnut Creek in 62 to 64 feet of water. Anglers are finding the large clusters or packs of boats are not always the best place to limit out. With the recent rough weather conditions, try moving away from the packs of boats if you are not having success. Limits of perch are still common now with the best times being right after sunrise and right before sunset. Perch fishing should remain good into the Fall months, wind and waves permitting, with the largest schools settling in between 50 and 65 feet of water north of Walnut Creek. Shiners are still in good supply at local bait shops. Walleye are still being brought in good numbers with occasional limits being reported. All this and Steelhead season is just around the corner. Current Lake Erie water temperature off Toledo is 71 degrees, off Cleveland, 74 degrees, and off the Port of Erie, 74 degrees. Support Your Local Sportsmen's Clubs: The Pennsylvania Steelhead Association will hold its first meeting of the season (a sure sign that Fall is just around the corner) tonight, Wednesday August 13th at the American Legion on West 12th street (route 5 just east of the Tom Ridge Field) at 7:00 PM. WCO Brook Tolbert is scheduled to attend to answer any pre season questions. The public is welcome. Steelhead? Thursday...Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 70s.
