West Erie County, DWCO Randy Leighton, WCO Brook Tolbert

Conditions:

Recent rains continue to bring in additional steelhead and many limits have been observed over the last few days. Surprisingly, the crowds have not been the usual chaos that we have seen over the last few years......yet! There has been a fair amount of elbow room throughout the WCAA Project waters and at the mouth of Elk Creek. Trout Run has been congested during the early morning hours on the weekends although there have been only a handful of anglers fishing the shorelines at night. Boaters are still targeting perch and doing fair to good although the walleye catches are starting to slow down. Current Lake Erie water temperatures as of this writing are 62 degrees off Toledo, 66 degrees off Cleveland, and 65 degrees off Erie, still quite warm for this time of year. Current West side tributary conditions as of Tuesday afternoon were some what low and clear with reasonable flow.

Update on Fishing Access at 4 Mile Creek from WCO Ed Stuart:
Four Mile Creek is open to public fishing, however, anglers must access the creek either from the Golf Course side of the creek, or from the beach and up the mouth. Access to the creek from Fishing Club property has been restricted by the Fishing Club. Do not trespass upon Fishing Club property--it is properly posted.
Anglers may park their vehicles in the eastern side of the parking lot (GE picnic pavilion side of lot) and cross the Golf Course foot bridge, and quietly walk along the tree line (in the rough) and down the hillside to access the creek.

Please do not hesitate to request further information regarding Four Mile Creek.

Update on the Walnut Creek Sunset Garden Memorial / Recognition Wall from Christie Ferrier:

It’s Spring again and while the garden is still asleep, we have been receiving requests for more wall pavers to be engraved! Most of you who regularly log on to this web site know about the garden and the wall. For those of you who are new, the purpose of this community garden is beautification and education for the visitors to the Marina. The wall is a means to preserve memories and recognize important persons or events in the lives of people who use this beautiful Marina to fish, boat, walk their dogs, watch the sunsets, take walks – even fly kites!

The sale of the pavers brings in the money needed to maintain the garden and the wall, and when it reaches $10,000 (we are at $9,000), it will be put into the Erie Community Foundation so that the garden and wall will be maintained into perpetuity.

The wall is now structurally finished – the large cap stones are in place and several have already been engraved. There are still 6 sides of these stones available, one of which can be yours to engrave as you wish. These are very special and would make wonderfully meaningful memories for your family or business. Think how exciting it would be for your grandchildren – great grandchildren – to see their family name on this wall in 50 to 100 years from now!

I now have about 6 new orders for pavers, and they will be processed when the weather becomes warm and dry. So, if you are interested, either contact me at the address below or see the ladies in the Walnut Creek Access Office
