Fishing success has been hard to accurately judge on the West Side due to the small number of boats trying it. Rough lake conditions and a cold spring that doesn't seem to end just doesn't have boaters enthused yet. Bass are in about 15' of water near the Ohio Border while the hot Yellow Perch are off of 4 Mile Creek.

Walnut Creek Access ...
Work on the East Jetty has been underway to provide better access for disabled anglers. Paved pathways, user friendly grades, safety curbs are all part of this project. Construction of the Memorial Wall iby the anchor is to begin soon and there is still time to order an engraved granite block. Interested persons can email me receive an order form. jb

Lake Erie Boating Observations…
· It takes 12 mph winds to straighten out a flag.
· It takes 2.5' waves to start white capping
· Every 5 mph of wind makes 1' of wave (15-25 mph winds = 3-5' waves)
· South winds will keep the lake calm nearshore
· Hypothermia is a threat when air + water temperature total is less than 125 degrees Fahrenheit
· One of the most common violation on Lake Erie is expired visual distress signals
· One of the most common violations in Presque Isle Bay is violating a "No Wake" area
· Commonly Used GPS Coordinates: Ohio Line / 80:31.1 - NY Line / 79:45.7 - Walnut Creek / 42:04.6 & 80:14.3 - North East Marina / 42:15.6 & 79:48.5
· Most dangerous behavior commonly observed is wearing hip boots or waders while underway in a small boat.

Small mouth bass fishing continues to be productive in the area between Hammermill and Eight-mile Creek. Edinboro Lake smallies continue to be picked up in the early afternoon hours.

Perch fishing on the piers, North and South, has steadily been increasing with numerous limits for those who wish to put in the time. Boats launching from Lampe Marina at 5 AM have limits back at the dock by 8 AM if they have small shiners.

Large mouth in the lagoons are laying in wait for those who wish to enter.

Muskellunge at Edinboro Lake are starting to pick up. One angler recently spoke of a light morning of musky with success. I did notice a very large musky washed up on the shore line which probably measured somewhere in the mid forties.

With the increase of persons fishing from their boats, I am noticing a large number of licenses not being displayed. I would like to remind everyone that the display of license is a requirement in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

With the recent rise of bow fishermen in Misery Bay and Horseshoe Pond, I would remind these individuals that any carp, gar or sucker which is shot with a bow cannot be simply thrown into the weeds or overboard. There is a regulation pertaining to unlawful disposition which, simply stated, requires that you lawfully dispose of all fish taken from Commonwealth waters. Throwing them into the brush is not only a violation under this section, but also we consider it litter.

Joe's computer went down from a triple hit of viruses. He should be back online next week.

All spring stockings have been completed, and because of the high water
we had in late April and early May, there are exceptional numbers of
trout still in all the streams, especially the larger ones, like Sugar,
Sandy, Oil Creek and East Sandy. Caddis flies of various descriptions
are working well at times for Fly Fishermen, and Bait Anglers are doing
well with powerbait, live or salted minnows and red worms. Silver and
black Rapala's are producing some larger Trout in Oil creek, and the
Panfishing is picking up at Justus and Kahle Lakes.

French Creek and the Allegheny River water levels are both on the drop,
and the slight discoloration that remains should help the walleye
fishing pick up soon. Try larger baitfish for larger fish, and a
sensitive rod tip is always a big help.
