Central Basin

Walleye
Where: Some walleye have been caught 5 miles northwest of Vermilion. Anglers are also catching fish in 10-to-30 feet of water north-northwest of Cleveland, and in 10-to-30 feet of water of north of Fairport Harbor.
How: Anglers are trolling spoons, deep diving crankbaits and shallow diving crankbaits.

Yellow perch
Where: Anglers are catching perch north of Sherod Park (west of Vermilion) and north of the Vermilion break wall. Good fishing has been reported in 40-to-50 feet of water north-northwest of Gordon Park, in 45-to-52 feet of water north of Wildwood Park, in 63 feet of water north-northwest of Fairport Harbor and in 43-to-58 feet of water north of Ashtabula Lakeshore Park. Fish are being caught from shore off the E. 55th Street and E. 72nd Street piers in Cleveland and at the long and short piers on the Grand River.
How: Perch spreaders with shiners fished near the bottom produce the most fish.

Smallmouth bass and Largemouth Bass
Where: Fishing has been good around harbor areas in Cleveland, Fairport Harbor, Geneva, Ashtabula and Conneaut.
How: Anglers are using crank baits, soft plastic lures with jigs, drop shot rigs with leeches, and soft craws.

White bass
Where: Anglers fishing from boats are catching white bass north of Cleveland in 40-to-60 feet of water while fishing for yellow perch. Watch for the gulls feeding on the surface and the white bass will be below the school of emerald shiners. Anglers fishing from shore are catching fish off the piers in Cleveland, Eastlake and Grand River, with the evenings being the best. It is always hard to predict when the fishing will pick up for white bass.
How: Anglers are using small spoons, spinners and agitators with jigs tipped with twister tails.

Steelhead
Where: Good fishing has been reported by anglers trolling and casting in the harbors, break walls, and nearshore areas at Conneaut, Ashtabula, Geneva, Fairport Harbor, Eastlake, and Rocky River.
How: Anglers are using spoons, jigs and maggots, spinners, and small crank baits either by casting or trolling.

The Lake Erie water temperature is 53 off Toledo and 57 off Cleveland according to the nearshore marine forecast.

Anglers are encouraged to always wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device while boating.
