ODNR HONORS 29 OHIO MARINE PATROL UNITS FOR EXCEPTIONAL PUBLIC SERVICE

Individual Award also goes to marine patrol officer from Sandusky

COLUMBUS, OH -- Sandusky Marine Patrol Officer David A. Yourkvitch
and 29 local marine law enforcement agencies from across the state were
recognized recently by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) for
exceptional public service to Ohio boaters during 2003.
Yourkvitch received an Individual Award for providing more than 12
years service with Ohio's marine patrol program.
The Rocky River Police Department in Cuyahoga County, Sandusky
Police Department in Erie County and the Summit County Sheriff's Office each
received Outstanding Marine Law Enforcement Agency Awards.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office, Lucas County Sheriff's Office and
the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District each received the Marine Law
Enforcement Service Award.
An Appreciation Award went to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office
for meeting all basic requirements of the Marine Patrol Grant Program in a
timely fashion and conducting marine patrols that produced positive results.
Recognition Award recipients this year included the Butler County
Sheriff's Office, City of Mansfield-Clear Fork Reservoir, Cleveland Police
Ports and Harbors Unit, Columbus Police Marine Park Unit, Five Rivers Metro
Park, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Henry County Sheriff's Office, Huron
Police Department, Lake County Sheriff's Office, Lorain Marine Patrol,
Mahoning County Sheriff's Office, Ohio State Parks (Regions 11 & 12), Ottawa
County Sheriff's Office, Perrysburg Township Police Department, Pickaway
County Sheriff's Office, Port Clinton Police Department, Portage County
Sheriff's Office, Put-In-Bay Police Department, Ross County Sheriff's
Office, Scioto County Sheriff's Office, Toledo Police Department and
Vermilion Police Department.
Earlier this year, the ODNR Division of Watercraft awarded $550,000
in Marine Patrol Assistance grants to assist local agencies with their
boating safety and enforcement efforts. The Marine Patrol Assistance Grant
program is funded through boat registration fees and a portion of the state
gasoline tax.
