SUMMER NATURALIST PROGRAMS SET FOR MAGEE MARSH OAK HARBOR, OHIO -- Summer naturalist programs at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area will offer a variety of topics and some unique opportunities for visitors, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife. Starting off the summer schedule Friday, May 31 is a night hike, which will provide a unique opportunity to explore the sights and sounds of the marsh after dark. The hike will take place from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Participants are to meet at the Migratory Bird Center located on the wildlife area. No flashlights please. Refreshments will be served after the hike. Magee Marsh is located 17 miles west of Port Clinton on State Route 2 between State Routes 19 and 590. "BUGFEST" will be held Saturday, July 20 from noon to 4:00 p.m. providing a fun learning experience in the amazing world of insects. The event offers fun for the whole family at a variety of hands-on activity stations set up on the wildlife area. The "Hike the Dikes" programs will take place again this year. These Saturday morning programs are a joint venture between Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, and Black Swamp Bird Observatory. Participants are to meet at the Migratory Bird Center at Magee Marsh at 9 a.m. on the morning of the scheduled programs. "We explore anything that comes our way during these Saturday morning hikes," said Mary Warren, naturalist at Magee Marsh. "We conduct scheduled programs that are seasonal or timely in nature. However, participants can ask questions or hold open discussions relating to any topic they choose." Scheduled Hike the Dike Programs include: June 1 Wetland Breeding Birds July 6 Bald Eagles August 10 Shorebirds September 7 Wetland Plants October 5 Waterfowl Hikes are held rain or shine.
