OHIO WATERSHEDS TO BE TOPIC OF WILDLIFE DIVERSITY CONFERENCE

COLUMBUS, OH -- The importance of protecting watersheds and the wildlife associated with these resources will be the focus of this year's Wildlife Diversity Conference on March 7 at the Aladdin Shriners' Complex in Columbus. The annual event, open to the public, is sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

"Watersheds have become one of the most important individual units in out ecosystem, providing excellent habitat for Ohio's wildlife," said ODNR Director Sam Speck. "Improved water quality, wildlife restoration efforts, enforcement of stream litter laws and unprecedented efforts by local citizens and governmental agencies are making great progress for Ohio's streams."

The program will include discussion of efforts to protect river otters, crayfish, and freshwater mussels. Also, the importance of riparian breeding areas for bird communities will be discussed by Ohio's wildlife biologists.

For additional program information and registration, call 1-800-WILDLIFE and request a conference brochure. Early registration discounts apply until February 21, 2001.
